Cast Away (2000) is an energetic movie where Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks), a punctual FedEx employee, gets onto a plane from Memphis, when the plane suddenly hits a storm. The plane then crashes into the ocean, and Chuck narrowly survives. The next morning he wakes up on a deserted island. The captivating story is supported by magnificent acting from everyone, especially Tom Hanks. In the action scene, he really seems distressed and scared. Wilson (Amer Sports, Inc.¹), the volleyball, plays an enormous part in the immersion and Wilson really seemed to enjoy playing his part. Other than that, all the actors excelled and were really enjoyable to watch. The production for Cast Away was top notch, with the island looking amazing even with all the cameras everywhere around. Not one was ever seen. The costumes looked so realistic, and Chuck after (spoiler) 4 years on the island looked perfectly horrifyingly disheveled. And the soundtrack was great, with (correctly) long and awkward stretches without any music to symbolise his aloneness. The action packed moments had really energetic orchestral moments that sounded just like the music that you hear playing in your head when you are about to DIE. As for the main themes of the movie, you could almost smell Chuck's loneliness on that island—the poor guy had nothing but Wilson for company. You could feel when Chuck longed for home. And you could almost taste the raw fish he was eating. The emotion was just 👌. My opinion is that this movie is great. The story was so captivating, and the acting was superb, even if there were long boring scenes similar to 2001: A Space Odyssey that would just d r a g on and on. The action scenes did have lots of substance, and though it was very open-ended about what happened afterwards, the ending was nice and satisfying. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a bit of action and not the scariest movie, with some great heartwarming parts. Probably wait until you are 10 to watch this.² Overall, I would give this movie an absolutely spectacular 3.05 out of π. ¹ Amer Sports has a market cap of $16.34 billion as of January 16, 2025. ² Or don’t wait. I don’t care. This is a free country. You decide. Watch it when you are two years old, for all I care. Or heck, BEFORE YOU ARE EVEN BORN. But consider yourself warned: It’s a great movie, so DON'T WATCH IT WHATEVER YOU DO. JUST DON’T DO IT.³ ³ Do the math. It’s pretty easy! Or don’t do it. Fine, I’ll give you the answer. It’s 9.71/10. There you go. Are you happy now? Good. I am formally sorry for complicating things to this point. ⁴ Actually I do recommend this movie. Please watch it.⁵ ⁵ That’s it, I’m done.
