aaaaaaaa i have so sos osososos many feelings what the fuucuuck
the writing is very mature and clever and i really like the way it plays with the audience and is self aware, and is able to play with bittersweet themes. its always a commentary on itself and the depth the characters show throughout the show is very very nice.
nice that they start with regular tropes and unfold them as things go along, but they clearly never completely untangled from the origin, which is actually often not a problem because there is a very ironic engagement. the only really frustrating part is the constraint of monogamy. even though the show absolutely gets props for playing around with things a bit and loosening up relationship dynamics, its often unfortunately constantly in the shadow of a more restricted approach. this is also mainly a problem with the starting place of playing off the tropes of visual novels pseudo-harem shit, because it would be maybe even worse if all 3 main love interests ended up with the guy. its just really frustrating to have the whole thing be framed around competition and scarcity when its completely unnecessary, and there's so many compelling things going on parallel to it.
feels like so much is framed by the original starting place, and they did an incredible job given the premise (and it is an interesting premise!!) and type of thing they were going for, but ran into some serious constraints in the process because of the nature of the thing.
