I really tried to like this but idk it was just not that great. I watched a review of someone saying that most people didn't like the show because of it not following the manga or not being enough of a battle thing, and that if it was framed as a character piece then people would appreciate it. I never really was much a fan of the action fighting stuff anyway, so this seems like something I would buy, but I just disagree that the character arcs were all that deep. I think the essential conflict has potential but is carried out super bland and the journey the characters go through are really boring too. Like often there isn't enough connection to the characters for loss to mean much, and the motivations and emotions of characters are weird and seem out of place. Even when the characters are believable, the results don't make for a good story. good music tho. also queer rep super shit yikes
Edit: honestly the worst part about the show is the fundamental core that I just can't get past. Both human and ghoul sides are pretty strictly divided (except for rare exceptions like Kimi) and "both sides" are framed as justified and the show builds off that premise to be like interesting and compelling bc youre supposed to care about everyone. But theres absolutely no exploration about what humans could do to structurally provide for ghouls. Since that avenue isn't explored at all, character interactions feel meaningless because they don't address the root problem. Everything feels hollow and pointless because its just taken as a given that humans must wage war against ghouls because ghouls eat humans. zzzzz
